<image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello! My name is Veronica Otero. I’m a UK based independent photographer whose documentary work focuses on culture, identity, environment, health and human rights. In 2017, I graduated from London College of Communication with a first class honours in BA (Hons) Photojournalism and Documentary photography. My passion for photography is combined with discovery, cross-cultural communication, and a desire to spread awareness about global issues. I also strongly believe in giving back through the power of community engagement and education. I’m curious about life itself. I’m driven by cultures, in particular indigenous and minorities people, which is my main area of focus. I love meeting new people and their environment, costumes, rituals, trying different foods… The human experience is dynamic, unique and wholly unpredictable - it’s an exciting challenge to explore it through the medium of photography, but one of the most important things I love about photography is to use it as a tool to promote social justice, therefore I always bear in mind the importance of taking the right picture for the right reason. Thanks, Vero</image:caption>

<image:title>Editorial & Curation - Hope in Exile</image:title>
<image:caption>Marking World Refugee Day on 20 June, “Hope in Exile,” is a photojournalism exhibition delivered by the Refugee Journalism Project and One World Media that sheds light on the experiences of forcibly displaced individuals. By the end of this year 130 million people are expected to be forcibly displaced or stateless, according to the UN Refugee Agency. The emotional impact on their lives often results in feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. The collection of works from eight photojournalists captures a nuanced representation of what it means to be forced to live away from the familiarity of home. Drawing on their lived experiences of displacement from countries where press freedoms have been curtailed, these journalists reveal that amidst the despair of separation, there is also resilience and hope. Curated by Veronica Otero. Commisioned by One World Media & Refugee Journalism Project.</image:caption>
